When people think of the avocado, they think of guacamole and other delicious food dishes. But many people do not know that avocado oil is a wonderful facial moisturizer as well, and the oil may also be used to remove makeup from your face and eyes.
Some of the finest spas use avocado to apply directly to the face and body because it has natural vitamins and oils that moisturize and replenish skin. Slices of avocado may be rubbed on the body, and avocado may also be mashed up and the mixture applied directly to the skin as a therapy.
Avocado oil is used in the same manner and, in fact, some women have replaced their expensive facial creams with high-quality natural oils like avocado and olive. They find that their skin responds better to these oils, and like the fact that they are all-natural and do not contain any artificial chemicals, dyes, or perfumes.
Avocado oil helps to restore the natural elasticity of the skin and is effective at reducing stretch marks and wrinkles. It has an extreme moisturizing effect as well, and is perfect for chapped, dry, and flaked skin. It also may be applied directly to the hair, eyelashes, and fingernails with great effect.
Choosing the right avocado oil for your face
Because you will be applying the oil directly to your face, you definitely want to use an oil of the highest quality. That means that you will choose an extra virgin, cold pressed avocado oil because it has undergone only minimal processing.
This is important because as avocado oil is processed and refined, most of its nutrients and aroma is destroyed. The extreme heating and chemical extraction methods degrade the product, and this refined oil is best used for cooking rather than using on fresh food or applying directly to your skin.
The avocado oil facial
Before applying the oil directly to your face, gently clean the skin with mild soap and water and then pat it dry with a towel. I find it most convenient to do this after I get out of the shower, as my skin is clean and fresh and the pores open and ready to absorb the oil.
Use a cotton ball to dab some of the oil, it won’t take much as a little goes a long way. Gently massage the oil into the skin in a small circular motion and then allow it to set and dry for 10 or 15 minutes. Then just rinse it off with lots of water.
Avocado oil will remove makeup from your face and eyes
The oil also can be used to remove excess makeup as well. Just use the same method described above by dabbing a little bit of oil on a cotton ball. Your makeup should wipe away easily as the oil binds to the molecules in the makeup.
Here is a YouTube video that walks you through the whole process. She uses olive instead of avocado oil but the principle is the same.
