The most effective way to get your body weight under control is to combine cardiovascular workouts with weight training for weight loss. The best method is to alternate workouts, with one day being weight training and the next day being a cardio day. I like to do my cardio work on the treadmill or stair climber and combine that with some upper body weight lifting. This combination gets both your lower and upper body worked, and gives each a day off so that the muscle that has been broken down can build back up.
When you do weight training, you will not necessarily see the weight loss right away. But you will start to see the shape of your body change dramatically. As your muscle builds, your metabolism increases greatly, so you will be able to eat a higher caloric intake and your body will just burn right through it.
Because muscle is much heavier than fat, your weight may not drop dramatically at first. But you will definitely see the transformation in your body as a once fatty material around your arms and shoulders and midsection turn into muscle. And over time the bulge around your belly will gradually decrease.
The biggest benefit of weight training for weight loss lies in the fact that muscle is a calorie burning machine, even at rest. This means that once you get your muscle toned up through weight training, even when you are rest and you take time off from strength training, your muscles will still be burning through calories.
This means that you don’t have to be quite as perfect on your nutritional intake as you otherwise would. If your body is burning through fewer calories, you really have to watch what you eat because even a small increase in your caloric intake will show when you step on the scale. But many weightlifters are almost able to be anything they want within reason, because they know that their body will simply burn right through it.
If you dedicate yourself to this alternate pattern of cardiovascular training and weight training, I can almost guarantee you that your body will respond with weight loss and muscle gain. If you commit to going to the gym everyday for at least a 30 min. workout, you will see results the matter what shape your body is in now.
If you have little experience with weight training, you should not be intimidated. If needed, get a friend or hire a personal trainer to show you the basics and how to do each individual exercise and weight room. Once you have the basics down, it’s just a matter of following through on your goal.
Many weightlifters find the practice addictive. Once you start to see the results and you start to see your body change, you will start to feel hope you want to keep going with it. Weight training will help you to lose weight, reshape your body, and even reshape your self-image and make you feel like a new person.
