Refined avocado oil is used as a skin conditioner and hair moisturizer with great success, and is sometimes used as a food product although I would not recommended it for eating. It is also used by certain massage therapists as their oil of choice to massage into skin because of its moisturizing and restorative properties.
Avocado oil makes a great skin conditioner
Refined avocado oil is probably most well known as skin conditioner and moisturizer. It is effective at minimizing wrinkles and stretch marks and improving the overall elasticity of the skin. It makes for a nice body wash after you take a bath or shower, and works well as a facial moisturizer. The oil can also be used to remove makeup from around the eyes and face, simply use a cotton ball dabbed with oil to do the trick.
The smell of unrefined olive oil is much like the fruit itself, tangy and a bit nutty. Refined olive oil, on the other hand, has lost much of its fragrance during the manufacturing process and most brands do not have much of any fragrance at all.
Good as a hair moisturizer, too
The oil works great as a hair and eyelash moisturizer as well, similar to olive oil. After you wash and dry your hair, simply massage the avocado oil into your hair evenly and give it time to absorb. The hair acts as a sponge to any liquid and will soak up the oil, leaving your hair more moisturized and luxuriant.
You may try replacing your expensive facial creams with avocado oil facials, and see how your skin responds. Many women find that their skin actually responds better to the oil than it does to their cosmetic creams, which saves them a lot of money.
Unrefined avocado oil is best for food
If you intend to use the oil is food, I would definitely recommend buying unrefined oil because it is much healthier. The refined oil has lost much of its nutrients and vitamins during the manufacturing process, which can include heating and chemical extraction of the oil.
It is best to invest the extra money in pure, unrefined oil for use as food. Not only is it healthier, it will also taste better with more texture and complexity and also have a much better aroma which is fruity and nutty.
It is easy to make the comparison with olive oil, as it is always better to buy a good bottle of extra virgin olive oil rather than refined olive oil. The exception would be if your intention is to use the avocado oil for cooking or frying, because much of the nutrients would be lost during the cooking process anyway.
Each brand of unrefined avocado oil uses its own manufacturing process which affects the quality of the oil, so read the labeling to determine what methods they use to extract the oil from the avocado. Everyone’s skin and hair is different, and yours may react better to one type than another.
