Olive oil is well known to have moisturizing and healing properties for the skin and hair, and if you have dry or flaky facial skin you could see benefits from a little olive oil therapy. After ingesting two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil per day for a week, most people will notice a change for the better in the look of their skin and hair. Hair will have more luster in the skin a brighter sheen.
There are some excellent brands of commercial olive oil face moisturizer if you prefer, but olive oil can also be applied directly to the skin as a moisturizing therapy. Choose a high quality extra virgin olive oil because they have more of the nutrients and enzymes necessary to create a positive change in your skin. Just as with all food, olive oil loses its vitamins and nutritional properties the longer it ages, so make sure your bottle is fresh and hasn’t aged too long.
Before applying the olive oil, gently clean your facial skin with warm soap and water to remove dirt, oil, and debris. Then towel dry the skin and allow to dry. Next, use cotton balls or clean cloth to massage oil directly into the skin using a gentle circular motion similar to when applying wax. Allow the olive oil sufficient time to be absorbed by skin, about 15 minutes will be sufficient.
You can then rinse your face with water, or if you applied at bedtime, simply wait until you take a shower in the morning to clean your face again with soap and water. After only one or two applications you should start to see a your face is more moisturized with the decrease in flaking and dryness.
As mentioned, you can also combine this therapy with your lunch ocean of about 2 tablespoons of olive oil per day to increase the effect. You may also apply olive oil directly to your hair in the same manner to increase its moisture, health, and luster.
